Getting involved in an online gaming community involves more than learning how to work the left handed mouses that are out there. An ever growing number of people participate in EverQuest, WOW (World of Warcraft) and other MMORPGs (Massive MultiPlayer Online Role Playing Games), so they must have some appeal. Quite a few people are very passionate about gaming. Others are more casual about it. What kind of gamer do you want to be? Sure, you want to have fun gaming, but where do you start? Let’s look at some strategies to help you get more out of the time you spend gaming.
It can be a total pain sometimes if you’re left-handed. Sometimes it seems the world is made for right-handed people, and you know controllers are made for them, too. MMORPGs, most at least, are great because you can easily use your keyboard with keys given certain functions. What does that mean for you if you’re left-handed? Simple – make keyboard shortcuts for gaming purposes. The thing is the combination of your keyboard shortcuts and the left-handed mouse is more than enough to become good at anything including role playing games.
Do some of your friends participate in online gaming? Why don’t you all go online together and play? Online gaming can be a little intimidating on your own. Fortunately, if you don’t have friends who play online games, you can easily find new ones through the gaming community. You will find that the social aspect of games such as World of Warcraft are what make them so much fun. You can meet all kinds of new people, as there are vast numbers of people from all over playing. You can find many friends this way if you play the game well and are personable. Playing with friends makes online gaming more enjoyable.
If you think that someone is playing the game badly, don’t criticize them. In the likely event other gamers do that to you, forget it and don’t let them goad you into saying something back to them – except maybe, “Thank you.” Flame wars (arguments that are filled with harsh words and criticisms) can ruin the fun for everyone around you.
For example, if someone is having a bad day, then just maybe say something in private, and always be polite. The energy can be negatively affected when words are spoken in public that are best kept in private.
Online games are designed and intended to be fun for all. If you take it too seriously or try to be super stubborn about getting your own way, you won’t have any fun.
So don’t be a prima dona or a brat because that will bring everyone down. As always… if you’re a lefty, there’s so much more to online gaming than having that whiz-bang left-handed mouse. The point about the left-handed mouse is that if you need one, get one – and just have fun.
